About Maranice Strickland, LPC
Trauma-Informed Therapist Serving Texas & New Jersey
My Journey to Becoming a Therapist
Hi, I'm Maranice! I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and trauma therapist practicing in Texas and New Jersey. I hold a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology from New Jersey City University, and since moving to Texas in 2014, I've established the home base for Good Counsel Therapy, while continuing to provide virtual trauma counseling to clients in New Jersey.
Before I became a therapist, I walked my own path through pain and uncertainty. As a survivor of personal traumas, I once believed I was weak, lost, and beyond repair. It wasn't until I began my own spiritual and therapeutic healing journey that I discovered how powerful and transformative self-understanding and compassionate support can be. This journey not only helped me reclaim my strength but also deepened my commitment to helping others find theirs.
Clients often share that from our very first conversation, they feel comfortable and at ease, describing me as warm, approachable, and non-intimidating. That means a great deal to me because I know firsthand how hard it can be to reach out for support. I believe therapy should be a space where you can feel safe, breathe, and be yourself, without judgment or pressure.

"Maranice is the most caring and understanding therapist I've ever had. She sees connections that I don't because I think I'm so often just sitting in the weeds of my life. We'll often be talking about work stuff, and she will remind me that this is similar to a theme or an issue that I've been dealing with related to the trauma I dealt with from my childhood. And then I have this sudden realization of oh, that's why I got angry for "no reason" when there really was a reason, but I didn't understand the reason. She's so empathetic and encouraging; I've never felt judged by Maranice. At the same time, she will urge me to make goals to move forward for my own health, whether that's physical, mental or psychological. The way she combines these things without putting pressure on me always makes me look forward to our sessions. I always walk away from talking with her with a feeling of calm, being more understood and feeling I have something I can work on, but without pressure. I can't thank her enough for her patience and care." -Client of Good Counsel Therapy

Client Testimonials
My Approach to Trauma and Childhood Trauma Therapy
Since beginning my clinical journey in 2015, I've been passionate about helping individuals and couples work through childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. My approach is client-centered and mindfulness-based, incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and other evidence-based techniques to support healing and growth.
When working with childhood trauma, my goal isn't to "fix" you, because you're not broken. Instead, I help you gently explore how past experiences have shaped your current emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Together, we work to replace patterns of fear, shame, or self-doubt with self-compassion, empowerment, and trust.
As a trauma-informed therapist and licensed professional counselor, I am committed to guiding clients toward emotional safety, clarity, and resilience. Whether you are navigating past trauma, anxiety, depression, or relationship struggles, my goal is to help you reconnect with your inner strengths, heal past wounds, and build the life you deserve.
Areas of Speciality
Throughout my years of practice, I've developed specialized expertise in treating individuals and couples who are navigating some of life's most challenging experiences. Whether you're dealing with unresolved childhood wounds, struggling with anxiety or depression, or finding it difficult to connect in your relationships, I bring both professional training and personal understanding to our work together. My practice focuses on creating lasting change through evidence-based therapies like EMDR and CBT, always within a compassionate, trauma-informed framework that honors your unique story and strengths.
